Jan Joins ITV1's Auction Party

auction-party.jpgLaurence Llewelyn-Bowen’s fabulous new ITV show – Auction Party – goes on air from Monday 25th July for two weeks at 2pm till 3pm each weekday.

The show is all about the British idiosyncrasy of raising money for charity and was filmed in 10 different locations up and down the country. Each show follows two teams going head to head to raise funds for their chosen charities.

Laurence takes control of the gavel for the series and he makes a flamboyant and witty auctioneer, managing every day to squeeze every last penny from his rapt audience.

In each episode, both teams must use all their creative and social skills to select items they think will sell best at auction. Along with pieces they have found in their own homes, they are given £250 to spend in local junk shops and charity stores.

This is where Jan comes in. Her role, during filming five of the shows, is to help one of the teams to track down bargains from junk shops, attics and antique shops – to up-cycle them and then hopefully sell them on at maximum profit. The two teams then need to organise and set up an auction, invite guests, create an auction catalogue and present an event worthy of their lots.

For this role of ‘expert’ she was able to draw on her own enormous experience over the years of bargain hunting and as a result absolutely loved working on the Auction Party programmes.

Jan comments: "It was a great privilege to work with such fantastic charities as well as great fun to film with Laurence and the crew. I thought it was wonderful to see my teams make money by creating a silk purse from a sow's ear - though sometimes it didn't always work out like that!!"

Auction Party with Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen starts Monday 25th July 2011 on ITV1 at 2pm

With his country on the brink of war and in desperate need of a leader, his wife Elizabeth (Helena Bonham Carter) seeks out the help of eccentric speech therapist, Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush). Academy Awards® winner Geoffrey Rush (Pirates of the Caribbean) stars as Logue, the man who helps him find a voice with which to lead the nation.

NEW Regal Collection

royal-wedding.jpgWe were all thrilled to hear the news that Prince William and Kate Middleton are finally tying the knot on 29th April this year at Westminster Abbey. To celebrate this happy occasion, I have designed a new collection with a regal theme – combining hearts, crowns and fancy lettering and in some cases our Union Jack heart motif. Each of the pieces in the collection will provide a wonderful memento of the couple’s special day and be something you can cherish for years to come.

Business Boost Award Winner

bb-winner-logo.jpgBack in July, Jan Constantine decided to enter the local ‘Business Boost’ Awards. Through Business Boost, participants are encouraged to develop entrepreneurship and strategic thinking underpinned by sound business planning. After completing some initial questions, we were shortlisted along with another 9 companies to move on to the next stage. For this we had to submit a Business Plan with a supporting cash flow, we were then shortlisted once more with 5 other companies to present to the judging panel. Jan and Diane both gave a fabulous 15-minute presentation and were then invited to attend the evening awards ceremony.

Although we were unsuccessful to win the category prize, we were delighted to be awarded the “Judges Discretionary Prize” out of all 12 companies shortlisted in both categories. We were awarded £1,000 and we were also presented with a “Highly Commended Small Business” Award. We plan to save the prize money until July 2011, where it will be used to promote our London 2012 Olympic range and celebrate ‘one year to go’ until the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Bernard Lovatt, entrepreneur and chair of Business Boost said: “The Business Boost Competition recognises ambition and rewards businesses that want to move forward. Since its inception in 2007, the awards have helped more than 30 local companies. I’m pleased to say that they continue to be successful today. The Business Boost Competition is entirely funded through sponsorship and in-kind contributions. I invite local organisations to support us in helping more businesses succeed.”

A huge thank you to Business Boost, particularly Bernard Lovatt for all their help and for presenting us with this fantastic award!

St. Joseph's Badge

st-josephs-cushion.jpgThese stunning cushions have been inspired by the badge of St Joseph’s College, Stoke on Trent. In a combined effort to raise funds, Jan Constantine has joined forces with Roisin Maguire, the head teacher at Saint Joseph'sCollege.

Profits from the sale of these cushions will be used for the "Faith in the Future" campaign to save the school from closure.

The badge of St. Joseph's College is hand embroidered onto this sumptuous cushion and the school's motto "Fideliter et Fortiter" is stitched in antique gold thread onto black or cream pure wool felt. It makes the ultimate statement of support in the home while the battle to save the school rages on.

Quote from Ms Maguire, Head teacher of St Joseph's "I am delighted that an artist of Jan Constantine's quality has produced these fantastic cushions for us. They are a wonderful statement about the community of St. Joseph's College and will be fantastic heirlooms for future generations to remind them of the 'battles' we had to fight in our 75th anniversary year to retain this outstanding school.

In addition they will also look beautiful in anyone's home" An article called "The Battle of the Badge" about the school's fight against closure was published in the Sunday Telegraph on January 6th 2008.
